Irish dramatist, short story writer and founder of the Field Day Theatre Company
Author of "Aristocrats" (for which he won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play in 1989), "Dancing at Lughnasa" (for which he won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Play and the Tony Award for Best Play in 1992) and "Molly Sweeney" (for which he won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Foreign Play in 1995)
Inducted into the American Theater Hall of Fame in 2006
