Author of dozens of novels and short stories including "The Bride Wore Black", "I Married a Dead Man", "After-Dinner Story" and "Somebody on the Phone"
Dozens of his stories were the basis for films such as "The Window" (who's original story was "The Boy Cried Murder"), "Rear Window" (who's original story was "It Had to Be Murder") and "Obsession" (who's original story was "Silent as the Grave")
Also wrote under the pseudonyms William Irish and George Hopley
