Author of "The Talking Bird: An Aztec Story Book" (written with John M. Weatherwax), "Little Yusuf: The Story of a Syrian Boy" and "The Merry Frogs" (named a Julia Ellsworth Ford Foundation Book in 1936)
Started the Poetry Magazine Palms in 1923 (until 1930)
Served as the head of the foreign book department at the Los Angeles Public Library in 1925
Served as the dean and organizer of the first summer session at the University of Guadalajara in 1932
Opened a gold mine at Ameca, Mexico in 1935
Was a riveter for Douglas Aviation and Fletcher Aviation during World War II
