Author of "Into the Stone and Other Poems", "Drowning with Others" (which led to a Guggenheim Fellowship), "Buckdancer's Choice" (for which he was a finalist for the National Book Award for Poetry in 1965) and "Deliverance"
Appointed the 18th Poet Laureate of the United States in 1966
