Author of "Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune", "Kiss of the Spider Woman" (for which he won a Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical in 1993), "A Perfect Ganesh" (for which he won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1994), "Ragtime" (for which he won the Tony Award for Best Book of a Musical in 1998), "Master Class" (for which he won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1995) and "Love! Valour! Compassion!" (for which he won the Tony Award for Best Play in 1996)
