Author of "The Emperor and the Kite" (written by Jane Yolen and for which he was awarded a Caldecott Honor in 1967), "Lon Po Po: A Red Riding Hood Story from China" (for which he was awarded the Caldecott Medal in 1990) and "Seven Blind Mice" (for which he was awarded a Caldecott Honor in 1992)
